Family Law, Marriage, and Divorce

Family Law is the common term for anything relating to the family, such as divorces, custody, child support, visitation, prenuptial agreements, alimony, and other common areas.  However, it is much broader than that, including dependencies, adoptions, guardianships, powers of attorney, grandparents rights, same sex relationships, and termination of parental rights cases.   Washington is a no fault State, meaning that either spouse may file for divorce and only the only proof requirement is that the marriage is “irretrievably broken.”  Neither spouse has to meet the former requirements of “infidelity” or “mental or physical cruelty.”
